Update: Trotro Driver Arrested After Crashing Into Akufo-Addo’s Nima Residence Wall, Injuring Three

On Wednesday evening, July 16, 2025, a commercial minibus (trotro) driver was arrested after crashing a green Sprinter bus into the fence wall of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s private residence in Nima, Accra, injuring three passengers.
According to reports from 3News and Citi Newsroom, the vehicle veered off the road, allegedly due to suspected brake failure, and slammed into the wall, causing significant damage and a nearby telephone pole to collapse.
The incident sparked panic among residents, with bystanders gathering to assess the scene, as captured in circulating video footage.
The three injured passengers were promptly rushed to a hospital for treatment. The driver was taken into police custody, and investigations into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing. Eyewitnesses reported to 3News that the trotro lost control, leading to the collision.
This marks the second such incident at Akufo-Addo’s Nima residence, following a 2021 crash where a driver, also citing brake failure, was fined GH¢960 for damaging the same wall.
