University of Ghana Directs Students with CGPA Below 1.00 to Withdraw

The University of Ghana has directed undergraduate students who obtained a Cumulative Grade Point Average below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes of study.

In a notice posted on Facebook on Thursday, 22 October, the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate said the directive was in line with Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which outlines the requirements for academic progression.

Under the regulation, students must obtain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and satisfy the academic requirements of their respective schools or departments to progress to the next level.

The Directorate stressed that the university’s regulations make no provision for probation. Consequently, students whose CGPAs fall below 1.00 after all grades for their registered courses have been released will be required to withdraw from their programmes.

The statement added that affected students should check their academic standing through the university’s Management Information System Web and initiate the withdrawal process through the Student and Staff Portal.

“Affected students are to check their CGPAs on the MIS Web, log in to the STS Portal (sts.ug.edu.gh/services) with their Student ID and PIN and select “Withdrawal Request” to initiate the process,” the statement said.

The Directorate, however, noted that for some programmes, the relevant school or department would initiate the withdrawal process on behalf of affected students.

Students seeking clarification on their academic standing or the withdrawal procedure have been advised to contact their respective College Academic Offices.

The university also indicated that its Careers and Counselling Directorate remains available to provide support and guidance to students affected by the directive.
