AWERCO THREATENS LEGAL ACTION AGAINST HEALTH MINISTRY OVER WEIJA CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL CLAIMS

Awerco Construction Limited, the contractor behind the Weija-Gbawe Children’s Hospital project, has threatened legal action against the Ministry of Health over what it describes as false and damaging claims regarding delays in completing the facility.
In a letter dated May 8, 2026, the company’s lawyers accused the Ministry of publishing “inaccuracies and misrepresentations” in a recent press release on the operationalisation of the hospital.
The Ministry had reportedly raised concerns about procurement irregularities, including claims that some medical equipment may have been priced up to 11 times above market value.
However, Awerco has strongly denied the allegations, insisting it fulfilled its contractual obligations and should not be blamed for delays in commissioning the hospital.
“Our Client has been wrongly portrayed as being responsible for the Ministry’s inability to commission and operationalise the Weija Paediatric Hospital,” the lawyers stated.
The company also revealed that it has repeatedly written to the Ministry over unpaid outstanding amounts but says those letters received no response.
Awerco further explained that its concerns were focused on proper handover procedures and the installation of protective systems to safeguard sensitive medical equipment from damage.
The contractor has given the Ministry 24 hours to retract parts of its statement or face legal action
