Two Suspects Arrested for Robbery and Murder of 20-Year-Old in Ashanti Region

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested two men, Solomon Opoku and Collins Aboagye, in connection with the robbery and murder of 20-year-old Kofi Mensah, whose body was discovered on October 6, 2025, in Tweapease-Aboo, Obuasi.
The arrests followed intelligence-led operations triggered by a report from local Assembly Member Francis Appiah. Mensah was allegedly attacked, killed, and robbed of his Haojin motorbike by the assailants.
Opoku, 25, was apprehended on October 10 at Council Quarters in Obuasi while attempting to sell the stolen motorbike. Further probes led to Aboagye’s capture on October 11 at Kokotesua, also in Obuasi. Both suspects have confessed to the crime and were arraigned before the Obuasi Circuit Court, where they were remanded pending further investigations.
Regional Police Commander ACP George Ankomah-Asare commended the swift action and assured the public of the command’s dedication to justice and security. He urged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities, emphasizing community partnership in crime prevention.
The case highlights rising robbery incidents in Obuasi’s mining communities, where economic pressures fuel crime. Similar arrests, like a September 2025 robbery-murder in Abesim, underscore the police’s ongoing efforts amid resource constraints.
