Two Suspected Robbers Shot Dead After MoMo Attack in Tema

Two suspected armed robbers have been shot dead following a robbery attack on a mobile money (MoMo) vendor at Tema Community 5.
According to a statement issued by the Ghana Police Service, the incident occurred on Monday, April 13, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m. at Aba Fosuah Plaza.
Preliminary investigations indicate that one of the suspects, who was riding as a pillion passenger on a motorbike, approached the vendor under the pretext of making a cash-out transaction. While the victim attempted to process the request, the suspect allegedly pulled a pistol and demanded her bag containing cash.
Police say the victim resisted, leading to a struggle involving both suspects. During the confrontation, the pillion rider shot the vendor in the leg before the attackers fled the scene with the cash on a motorbike.
A patrol team from the Tema Regional Operations Unit, deployed nearby for security duties, responded promptly after receiving a distress call and pursued the suspects.
During the chase, the suspects reportedly opened fire on officers near a junction close to Smart Hotel. Police returned fire, fatally wounding both suspects, who fell off their motorbike.
The suspects were transported to the Police Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have since been deposited at the morgue for identification and autopsy.
A search conducted on them led to the retrieval of a 9mm pistol loaded with ammunition, three mobile phones, assorted SIM cards, a talisman, a motorbike key, and cash amounting to GH¢11,390. Police also recovered a Ghana Card belonging to the victim.
The injured MoMo vendor is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
The Tema Regional Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to maintaining safety and security and has urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
