Two Nannies Arrested in East Legon for Drugging and Abusing Twin Toddlers

Two nannies, Francisca Boakye (30, student nurse from Konongo, Ashanti Region) and Harriet Ansah (31, from Jasikan, Volta Region), were arrested by the Airport Divisional Police in East Legon for allegedly administering sleep-inducing drugs, suspected to be ‘Dynewell,’ to their employer’s two-year-old twin sons without consent, causing unusual drowsiness and behavioral changes.
The abuse, reported by the 41-year-old businesswoman employer in September 2025, also included heating the toddlers’ hands with fire and using derogatory names like “chimpanzee” over eight months.
A police search uncovered two used and four unused trays of the suspected substance in the nannies’ room. Both admitted to the abuse, were charged, and remanded by the court, with a reappearance scheduled for October 20, 2025.
Accra Regional Police Command’s Supt. Juliana Obeng condemned the “inhumane acts” and urged parents to supervise domestic staff closely.
The case, widely discussed on platforms like X, amplifies calls for stricter oversight of childcare workers, especially amid Ghana’s broader social challenges, including recent protests over unpaid public sector workers and galamsey-related arrests.
