Two Illegal Miners Arrested in Joint Operation Along Birim River

A joint operation by the Blue Water Guard and the Akim Oda Police Command has led to the arrest of two notorious illegal miners operating along the Birim River in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The operation targeted illegal mining sites that pose serious threats to water bodies, farmlands, and the environment. During the exercise, three Changfang machines being used for illicit mining activities were traced and destroyed.
The two suspects arrested have been handed over to the Ghana Police Service to assist with further investigations and possible prosecution.
The latest operation follows an earlier enforcement exercise by the Blue Water Guard, which resulted in the arrest of five Chinese nationals involved in illegal mining activities in the same area.
Speaking to Citi News, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central, Solomon Brako Kusi, commended the security agencies involved for conducting the operation without any incidents. He stressed that the exercise demonstrates the Municipal Assembly’s firm commitment to safeguarding natural resources and protecting the environment from the destructive effects of illegal mining.
Mr. Brako Kusi reaffirmed that the assembly, in collaboration with security agencies, will continue to intensify efforts to clamp down on illegal mining activities within the municipality.
