Two people have died after they were trapped in a mining pit at Juaboso in the Western North Region.
The incident happened in the Juaboso District after the victims entered the pit to mine.
Preliminary information indicates they went underground around 12:00 pm on Saturday, 26 September.
They are said to have become weak while still inside, believed to be from heat and poor ventilation.
When they did not come out by Sunday morning, 27 September 2026, a friend reportedly went in to look for them.
He is said to have found them in a weak state and struggling underground.
Community members then organised a rescue and rushed them to the Juaboso Government Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
One of the victims has been identified as Richard Oduro, popularly known as Churches. He lived in Juaboso Township.
The other person has not yet been identified. He is described as a stranger in the community.
The exact cause of death is yet to be officially confirmed.
