Twifo Tongow Crash: One Dead, Six Critically Injured After Cement Truck Somersaults

A devastating accident on the Twifo Tongow-Wassa Hemanso road in Ghana’s Central Region has left one person dead and six others in critical condition after a KIA Rano truck loaded with cement blocks suffered brake failure.
The truck, traveling from Ntafraso to Wassa Hemanso, lost control while descending from Twifo Tongow in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District, somersaulting and causing the heavy cargo to crush passengers. A teenager died instantly at the scene, while the six injured were trapped in the wreckage.
Twifo Praso Fire Service crews responded rapidly, using tools to cut through the mangled vehicle and extricate the victims, who were rushed to Twifo Atti-Morkwa District Hospital. The Twifo Praso Police have confirmed the incident and initiated an investigation into the brake failure and other factors.
This stretch, notorious for its steep declines and poor maintenance, has seen multiple crashes, with locals calling for urgent road repairs to prevent further tragedies.
