True Catholics cannot be freemasons – Accra Archdiocese declares

The Catholic Archdiocese of Accra is standing firm on its stance that being a Catholic and a Freemason are two things that just can’t mix.

According to a recent statement from the Archdiocese, signed by Metropolitan Archbishop Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, the Church’s teachings on Freemasonry haven’t changed and still align with the “Declaration on Masonic Associations” issued back in 1983.

This document makes it clear that the principles of Freemasonry are completely at odds with the doctrine of the Church, and that Catholics who join Masonic associations are committing a serious sin and can’t receive Holy Communion.

The Archbishop pointed out that Freemasonry goes against some of the core teachings of the Catholic faith, like putting Jesus Christ on the same level as other figures like Buddha and Krishna, and leaving out Christian prayers in its rituals.

He urged Catholics, especially young adults, to seek guidance from the Church and be cautious of associations that try to make Freemasonry seem okay.

He even referenced Proverbs 22:6 and Matthew 6:24, emphasizing that you can’t serve two masters and that Freemasonry undermines the values of the Catholic Church
