Tragedy at Wakrom Junction: 5 Dead, 12 Injured in Cape Coast-Accra Highway Crash

A horrific collision at Wakrom Junction near Yamoransa on the Cape Coast-Accra Highway claimed five lives and left 12 others injured on Monday, September 15, 2025. The accident involved a DAF truck loaded with 700 bags of rice (registration AW 9548-13) and a Toyota Hiace passenger vehicle (GC 9728-21).
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Central Regional Headquarters dispatched a rescue team at 2:45 p.m., arriving 14 minutes later to find victims trapped in the mangled Hiace.
Firefighters extricated five victims, four of whom were pronounced dead at the hospital, with one in critical condition. Nine others had been rescued by bystanders and emergency responders before GNFS arrived, bringing the total casualties to 17: five dead and 12 injured, with one person still trapped as rescue efforts continue.
The truck’s driver and mate escaped unharmed. The crash caused severe traffic disruptions on the busy highway, with authorities urging motorists to exercise caution. The Ghana Police Service is investigating the cause, with preliminary reports suggesting the truck’s speed or road conditions as possible factors.
