Trader Fined GH¢2,400 for Skipping National Sanitation Day Clean-Up

A trader, Madam Patience Pomaa, has been slapped with a GH¢2,400 fine—or one month in prison if unpaid by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Sanitation Court for boycotting the mandatory National Sanitation Day exercise.
Convicted on Thursday, December 4, 2025, after pleading guilty, Pomaa ignored a statutory notice issued following her absence from the April 10, 2025, clean-up, as observed by Environmental Health Officers.
Prosecutor Nii Okine Aryee detailed how Pomaa disregarded the summons, prompting court action.
Magistrate Rosemond Vera Aryeetey stressed that participation is compulsory for all residents, warning that non-compliance jeopardizes public health and risks outbreaks of cholera, typhoid, diarrhea, malaria, and other diseases.
The ruling reinforces enforcement of civic duties to maintain environmental hygiene across communities.
