TikToker Aminat Mahama, popularly known as “Bawumia Ba,” has been granted a reduced bail of GH¢50,000 with two sureties by the Accra Circuit Court as investigations continue into allegations of offensive conduct.
The court, as part of the new bail conditions, directed that one of the sureties must be a civil servant earning a monthly salary of at least GH¢2,500.
Aminat Mahama has also been ordered to surrender her Ghana Card to the police and report regularly to investigators until the conclusion of investigations into the matter.
The latest development comes after the social media personality was previously granted bail of GH¢1 million with two sureties following her arrest and subsequent appearance before Accra Circuit Court 2.
Under the earlier conditions, one of the sureties was required to be a civil servant earning not less than GH¢5,000, while she was also required to deposit her passport or Ghana Card with the police and make regular appearances before investigators.
Aminat Mahama was first arrested in May 2026 by the Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) after videos circulating on TikTok allegedly showed her making insulting comments against President John Dramani Mahama and making statements interpreted by authorities as threats against the President and his wife, Lordina Mahama.
The Police also alleged that some of her comments encouraged acts of violence, leading to investigations into possible offences linked to her online activities.
The case attracted public attention due to Aminat Mahama’s growing presence on TikTok, where she regularly shared political commentary and social media content. Her support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia earned her the nickname “Bawumia Ba,” which became widely associated with her online identity.
Following her re-arrest after allegedly repeating similar comments, she was brought before the court again to answer to the allegations.
The court’s decision to grant her GH¢50,000 bail means she will remain at liberty while the police continue investigations. She is expected to comply with all bail conditions, including reporting to investigators as directed.
The substantive matter is yet to be determined by the court.
