Techiman SHS Celebrates NSMQ 2025 Triumph: Wins GH¢800.00 GOIL Riddle Bonanza Prize in National Championship

Techiman Senior High School (SUPER TESS) etched their name in the annals of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) 2025 by clinching the coveted GOIL Riddle Bonanza prize of GH¢800.00 during the national championship finals, showcasing their wit and quick thinking in the high-stakes riddle round.

The Bono region’s proud representatives, known for their resilience in past contests, dazzled audiences with flawless solutions to the brain-teasing puzzles, securing the bonus amid fierce competition from powerhouses like PRESEC Legon and Adisadel College.

The GOIL Riddle Bonanza, a signature segment sponsored by Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL), rewards teams for correctly unraveling cryptic riddles that blend science, logic, and wordplay—often the decider in nail-biting ties. Techiman SHS’s victory in this round not only boosted their score but highlighted their strategic prowess, with team captain Kwame Asante crediting “teamwork and practice under pressure” for the win. “Solving those riddles felt like cracking codes in a thriller—pure adrenaline,” Asante shared post-event, as the team received the cheque from GOIL executives amid cheers at the National Theatre.

The NSMQ, an annual flagship competition organized by Primetime Limited and the Ghana Education Service since 1993, ignites passion for STEM among over 108 qualifying senior high schools nationwide. This year’s edition, themed “Igniting Minds, Building Futures,” drew 500,000+ viewers via Joy Prime and JoyNews, with Tech SHS advancing from regional qualifiers in Bono to the nationals, facing off in grueling rounds of general science, math, and problem-solving. GOIL, the headline sponsor since 2019, amplified the Riddle Bonanza from regional to national levels, awarding over GH¢50,000 this season to encourage innovative thinking—past winners like Sunyani SHS (2021, GH¢1,200) and Our Lady of Grace SHS (2024, GH¢800.00) exemplify its impact.

Techiman SHS, a government-assisted school in Techiman with a storied NSMQ history—reaching quarters in 2018—used the prize to fund STEM labs, aligning with NSMQ’s goal of fostering future innovators in Ghana’s youth bulge. As the 2025 champions gear up for victory parades, this accolade reinforces the quiz’s role in elevating rural talents, with GOIL’s support ensuring riddles remain a thrilling equalizer in the quest for knowledge supremacy.
