Taxi Driver Killed, Several Passengers Critically Injured in Wenchi–Subinso Road Crash

A taxi driver has died while several passengers remain in critical condition following a head-on collision involving two Opel taxis on the Wenchi–Subinso road in the Bono Region.

 

The accident reportedly occurred at about 7:10 p.m. on Monday night.

 

According to reports, one of the vehicles, an Opel taxi with registration number GT 9533-W, was travelling from Wenchi to Amponsahkrom with only the driver on board.

 

The driver, identified as Moro Sule and popularly known as “VA,” sustained severe injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at about 8:09 p.m.

 

The second Opel taxi, bearing registration number AS 9375-S, was reportedly travelling from Awisa to Wenchi with several passengers onboard.

 

The vehicle was extensively damaged in the collision, while all passengers sustained critical injuries and were rushed to the Methodist Hospital in Wenchi for emergency treatment.

 

One survivor explained that the driver attempted to avoid a motorised tricycle, popularly known in Ghana as a “pragya,” which allegedly had no lights.

 

According to the passenger, the tricycle suddenly crossed the road, forcing the taxi driver to swerve before colliding head-on with the oncoming vehicle.

 

Police are expected to commence investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
