Tamale High Court Orders Full Rerun of Kpandai Parliamentary Election Within 30 Days

The Tamale High Court has nullified the 2024 parliamentary election results in the Kpandai constituency and ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a complete fresh election within the next 30 days.
In a landmark ruling delivered Monday by Justice Emmanuel Brew Plange, the court upheld a petition filed by former NDC MP Daniel Nsala Wakpal, who challenged the victory of NPP’s Matthew Nyindam in the December 7, 2024 polls.
The petitioner successfully argued that the election was marred by serious irregularities and non-compliance with the Public Elections Regulations, 2020 (C.I. 127), particularly:
Inconsistencies in FORM 8A (Pink Sheets) from 41 out of 152 polling stations
Violations of Regulations 39 and 43 on polling and declaration procedures
Irregularities that materially affected the entire outcome of the election
Justice Plange agreed that the breaches were substantial enough to undermine the credibility of the results and therefore set aside the declaration of Matthew Nyindam as the winner.
The court has directed the EC to organise and conduct a brand-new parliamentary election in the entire Kpandai constituency on a date to be fixed within the 30-day window.
The ruling marks the first full constituency-wide rerun ordered since the 2024 general elections and could set a precedent for other pending election petitions across the country.
Both the NDC and NPP are expected to intensify campaigning in Kpandai ahead of the court-ordered poll.
