Suspected Armed Robber Shot Dead While Attempting to Escape Police Custody

A suspected armed robber has been shot dead after trying to flee while leading police officers to the hideouts of his accomplices.
The deceased, identified as Mahamadu Gariba Kirror, was in custody following his arrest in connection with a violent robbery. According to police sources, Kirror was assisting officers during an operation to track down other gang members when he suddenly attempted to escape.
Officers opened fire in an effort to stop him. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kirror and his gang are believed to be responsible for a deadly robbery on the Yeji–Atebubu highway on January 29, 2026, in which a driver and a passenger were shot and killed. The attack heightened fear among road users and renewed concerns about highway safety in the region.
Before his death, Kirror reportedly named several accomplices: Umaru, Issifu, Furgur, Ibrahim, Shaibu, and Yelow. Police say these suspects are on the run, and manhunt operations are ongoing.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that investigations into the robbery and related crimes will continue. They have appealed to anyone with information on the whereabouts of the fleeing suspects to contact law enforcement agencies immediately.
The incident is the latest in a series of armed robbery cases along major highways, prompting calls for stronger security measures and increased patrols in vulnerable areas.
