Police Gun Down Three Suspected Armed Robbers in Ashanti Region Operation

Three suspected armed robbers have been shot dead during a police operation in the Ashanti Region, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed.
The suspects, identified as Seidu Issah, Musah Yakubu, and Yahaya Munkaila, also known as Tijani, were gunned down on December 24, 2025, after they reportedly converged in a bush between Anwiankwanta and the Jacobu junction to carry out a planned criminal operation.
In a statement issued by the Police on Monday, December 29, officers said they encountered the gang during an intelligence-led operation but came under heavy gunfire. The police returned fire, killing the three suspects, while two other members of the gang managed to escape.
Items retrieved from the scene included two pump-action guns loaded with ammunition, one unbranded pistol, 25 live cartridges, and six spent cartridges.
The injured suspects were rushed to the Bekwai Municipal Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have since been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Police believe the deceased suspects were involved in several high-profile robberies, including the Jacobu airport robbery on November 3, 2025, which resulted in the death of a security guard. They are also suspected to be behind multiple highway robberies along the Manso stretch, the Antoakrom robbery, the Abofour Forest robbery near Offinso, and the attack on a gold buyer at Anwiankwanta on December 8, 2025.j
In a follow-up operation on December 26, 2025, police conducted a search at a palm plantation near Manso Nkwanta, believed to be a hideout used by the suspects.
The operation led to the recovery of one AK-47 assault rifle, one MG3 rifle, one pump-action gun, one single-barrel gun, as well as ammunition and personal effects.
The Police Service says investigations are ongoing, with efforts intensified to trace the source of the weapons and arrest accomplices who are currently on the run.
