Supreme Court Suspends Kpandai Parliamentary Rerun

The Supreme Court has ordered the suspension of the planned parliamentary rerun in the Kpandai constituency, pending the determination of an application filed by NPP parliamentary candidate, Matthew Nyindam.
The directive was issued on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, after the court heard Nyindam’s application challenging a ruling by the Tamale High Court, which annulled the December 7, 2024 parliamentary election in the constituency.
The apex court also directed Nyindam’s legal team to serve court processes on the NDC candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, through substituted service. The case has been adjourned to January 13, 2026, for further hearing.
Nyindam argues that the High Court wrongly assumed jurisdiction over the election petition and that the proceedings were invalid from the outset, insisting that the judgment should be quashed through judicial review.
The original petition at the High Court was filed by Wakpal, who contested the outcome of the 2024 parliamentary polls.
Following the High Court’s annulment of the election, the NPP applied for a stay of execution to prevent the Electoral Commission from organising a rerun while the matter is under consideration by the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court’s decision effectively maintains the status quo until the substantive legal issues are resolved.
