A-Plus Defends Low Participation in Parliamentary Debates, Says Focus is on Development and Industrialisation

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has explained that his limited contributions on the floor of Parliament are intentional, as his main focus is on driving development and industrial growth in his constituency.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, A-Plus said he is not bothered by criticisms regarding his perceived low participation in parliamentary debates. He stressed that “talking alone does not bring development.”
“I don’t worry about people saying that I don’t speak prominently. Before going to Parliament, I thought the focus was on talk, but once I got there, I realized it’s much more than that,” he said.
Priority on Industrialisation
The musician-turned-politician revealed that his primary goal is to transform Gomoa Central through job creation and industrialisation. He disclosed plans to establish what he described as “the largest industrial park in Africa” in the constituency.
A-Plus emphasised that his work in youth empowerment and support for women is already yielding positive results.
“My constituency is one of the few areas that has provided loans to women, and the repayment rate has been 100%. The people trust me,” he stated.
He added that his constituents are satisfied with his performance and are excited about the development projects being undertaken.
“The mandate that the constitution gives to an MP is different from what the people who elected you expect. I understand my duties in Parliament, and I see that my community needs jobs—they appreciate the work I’m doing. Everyone in Gomoa is proud of our efforts,” he said.
A-Plus made it clear that he is more interested in being remembered as an industrialist who creates opportunities for his people than as a vocal debater in Parliament.
His comments have reignited discussions about the role of Members of Parliament — whether they should prioritise legislative debates or focus more on constituency development and economic transformation.
