President John Dramani Mahama has announced that a state funeral will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra to pay tribute to the eight individuals killed in the military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom area of the Ashanti Region. The announcement was made during a national address at the Jubilee House on Friday morning.

The victims, who were on an official assignment to address illegal mining, included Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former Parliamentary Candidate Samuel Aboagye, and crew members Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah. President Mahama described them as “fallen heroes” who gave their lives in service to the nation, emphasizing the need to honor their legacy with dignity.

In addition to the state funeral, Mahama outlined further memorial plans, including an Evening of Reflection and Memorial at the forecourt of the State House on Saturday, August 9, at 5 p.m. He also announced that Books of Condolence will be opened from Sunday, August 10, to Thursday, August 14, at the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana Armed Forces Headquarters, National Democratic Congress headquarters, and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) head office, allowing the public to pay their respects.

The nation remains in a three-day mourning period, set to conclude on Saturday, August 9, with flags flying at half-mast. As investigations into the crash continue, the planned ceremonies reflect Ghana’s commitment to commemorating the sacrifices of its fallen leaders and servicemen.
