Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin has been appointed to the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s (IPU) Taskforce on the peaceful resolution of the war in Ukraine.
The IPU President cited Bagbin’s “integrity, impartiality, and ability to build trust with all parties” in the appointment letter.
Bagbin joins seven other parliamentarians from the IPU’s six geopolitical groups.
The taskforce, formed in March 2022, has held 13 meetings and conducted a mission to Kyiv and Moscow in July 2022. It provides one of the few platforms for dialogue between Ukrainian and Russian parliamentarians.
IPU Secretary-General Martin Chungong said Bagbin’s experience will support efforts toward a peaceful resolution.
Bagbin will attend meetings during IPU Assemblies, participate in hearings with Ukrainian and Russian delegations, and engage leaders from both countries.
