A violent clash has erupted in the Bunkpurugu district of the North East Region, leaving several people injured and properties destroyed.

The conflict started between two local clans, Nandouk Teeb and Maan Teeb, over chieftaincy titles. The two clans had attended enskinment ceremonies in Binde, where the Paramount Chief of the area is based, and were returning to Ngama Gberuk when they were ambushed by unknown gunmen.

The attackers opened fire, causing widespread panic and injuries, with some people sustaining gunshot wounds and others getting hurt while trying to flee.

To make matters worse, several houses and properties have been set on fire, displacing many families and leaving them without homes or belongings. The situation is still volatile, with fears of escalating reprisals between the factions, and many residents are too afraid to leave their homes .

The government has urged residents to exercise restraint and use non-violent means to maintain peace in the area, and a curfew has been renewed in Bunkpurugu to prevent further violence
