Seven Container Shops Destroyed in Early Morning Fire Along Spintex Road

A major fire in the early hours of Saturday, February 7, 2026, completely destroyed seven metal container shops along Spintex Road near Marina Mall.
The blaze, which affected businesses dealing in furniture, tailoring and groceries, broke out shortly after midnight.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) received a distress call at 12:01 a.m. Due to a faulty fire engine at the nearby Kasapreko Fire Station, the Tema Motorway Fire Engine was dispatched as the base pump.
A firefighting team led by ADO I Derrick Sarkodie arrived at the scene at 12:19 a.m. and found the fire already at an advanced stage, spreading rapidly.
Through coordinated operations involving three fire tenders from Motorway, Tema Metro and Tema Industrial Area stations, the flames were brought under control by 1:56 a.m. and fully extinguished at 4:32 a.m.
No casualties were reported.
The seven container shops and all their contents were completely destroyed. Firefighters successfully prevented the fire from spreading to:
Marina Mall
A car garage containing over 35 vehicles
Adjoining shops
Nearby residential buildings
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and investigations are ongoing.
The incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of container-based businesses along major roads and the need for improved fire safety measures in such areas.
