Senegal Crush Iraq 5-0 in Group I to Boost Knockout Hopes

Senegal delivered a dominant performance to thrash Iraq 5-0 in their Group I match on Friday afternoon in the United States.
Both sides entered the contest needing a strong result to stay in contention for a possible third-place finish that could secure qualification to the knockout rounds, with France and Norway battling for top spots in the group.
Senegal took the lead after just four minutes through Habib Diarra. Seven minutes later, Iraq were reduced to 10 men when Rebin Sulaka received a red card after a VAR review upgraded an initial yellow for a foul on Sadio Mane.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Iraq defended solidly for the rest of the first half. However, Senegal broke through in the second period with a 56th-minute strike from Ismaila Sarr.
Substitute Pape Gueye then scored a quick brace, and Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye rounded off the scoring with a smart effort.
The emphatic victory significantly strengthens Senegal’s position in the group and keeps their hopes of advancing to the Round of 32 very much alive.
