Semenyo Confident Ahead of Ghana’s World Cup Knockout Clash with Colombia
Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo has expressed strong belief in Ghana’s growing strength on the global stage, insisting the team is ready to handle pressure as they prepare for their 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 encounter against Colombia.
Ghana booked their place in the knockout phase after finishing third in Group L and will take on the South American side in Kansas City on Saturday, July 4, with kick-off set for 01:30 GMT.
Speaking ahead of the decisive fixture, the 26-year-old highlighted the progress of the national team in recent years, noting that rising expectations are a reflection of improvement within the squad.
“There is definitely pressure, but I feel like the pressure is because we’ve got such a good team. Over the years, our team’s got so much better, and now we feel like we’re on the world stage. We want to compete with all the top nations,” Semenyo said.
Semenyo, who has scored twice during the group stage, maintained that Ghana has the quality to match any opponent and rejected the idea that the Black Stars should be viewed as underdogs against Colombia.
“We’ve got the same talent. So why are we not up there? I feel like we’re at a stage now where we’re getting there, slowly building, and hopefully in the next years to come, we can compete,” he added.
The Black Stars will be aiming to secure a historic place in the quarter-finals as they continue their World Cup campaign in the United States.
