Security Guard Remanded Over Alleged Rape and Sextortion of KNUST Students

A 56-year-old security guard has been remanded by the Asokore Mampong District Court over alleged rape, extortion, and intimidation involving two students of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
The accused, Lloyd Kwaku Boateng, is said to have committed the offences on two separate occasions—February 13 and April 4, 2026—at the Ayeduase Roman Catholic Junior High School compound.
First Incident
According to prosecutors, the first incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on February 13.
A 22-year-old student, accompanied by her boyfriend, had visited the school compound when the accused allegedly confronted them, accusing them of inappropriate conduct.
The court, presided over by Her Worship Hilda Esther Wryter, heard that Boateng allegedly:
Assaulted the boyfriend
Seized their phones and keys
Demanded GH₵300 before forcing the boyfriend to leave
He is further accused of threatening to publicly humiliate the student before allegedly dragging her into a classroom and sexually assaulting her.
Second Incident
Prosecutors say a similar घटना occurred on April 4 involving a 23-year-old student.
The accused allegedly:
Intimidated the couple using his authority as a security officer
Separated the victim from her boyfriend
Held her until early morning
Threatened her with a knife
Sexually assaulted her
He is also accused of:
Forcing her to transfer GH₵150 via mobile money
Taking nude photographs
Threatening to release the images if she reported the incident
Arrest and Investigation
Boateng was arrested on April 13 after reportedly attempting to target another victim. He was apprehended with the help of a victim’s boyfriend and community members before being handed over to police.
Police prosecutor, Chief Inspector Samuel Agyare, told the court that:
Medical reports confirm physical trauma in both cases
Duplicate dockets have been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Department
Court Proceedings
The accused has denied all allegations in his caution statement.
The court has remanded him into custody to allow for further investigations. The case has been adjourned to May 8, 2026.
Ongoing Concerns
The case has raised serious concerns about:
Safety in and around school compounds
Abuse of authority by security personnel
Protection of students against sexual exploitation and blackmail
Authorities are expected to continue investigations as the legal process unfolds.
