Second Batch of Ghanaian Evacuees to Depart South Africa on June 7

Ghana’s High Commission in South Africa has announced that a second batch of Ghanaian nationals will return home on Sunday, June 7, 2026, under the ongoing voluntary evacuation programme.

The move follows the temporary suspension of new registrations to allow authorities to process and verify the high volume of applications received from Ghanaians seeking repatriation.

In a notice issued to the Ghanaian community in South Africa, the High Commission outlined arrangements for applicants whose requests have been approved for the upcoming flight.

According to the mission, all approved evacuees scheduled to travel on June 7 are expected to report to the High Commission on the evening of Saturday, June 6, for verification, briefing, and other pre-departure formalities.

The mission also appealed to persons whose names appear on the approved travel list but no longer intend to travel to notify the High Commission by noon on Thursday, June 4. Officials explained that this would allow other eligible applicants to be considered for the available slots.

Under the travel guidelines, each passenger will be allowed to check in two bags, with a maximum weight of 23 kilograms per bag. Luggage exceeding the approved limit will not be accepted.

Parents and guardians travelling with children have also been advised to carry all necessary travel documents, including consent letters where required, Road-to-Health cards, and child weighing cards.

The High Commission further disclosed that travellers who have been issued Emergency Travel Certificates (ETCs) will receive the documents at the airport on the day of departure.

Ghana’s High Commission in Pretoria is coordinating the voluntary evacuation exercise in collaboration with relevant authorities as efforts continue to assist Ghanaian nationals who have chosen to return home from South Africa.
