Rescue Operation Underway After Building Collapse at Avenor in North Kaneshie

A major rescue operation is ongoing following the collapse of a building at Avenor in North Kaneshie, opposite the Ashfoam showroom and adjacent to Melcom Plus, leaving one person in critical condition and raising fears that others may still be trapped under the rubble.
The incident occurred on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at a structure believed to be under construction and serving as both a residential building and a mosque.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), firefighters from the Circle Fire Station and the National Headquarters were quickly deployed to the scene after receiving reports of the collapse. Assistant Divisional Officer Alex King Nartey provided a live update on the GNFS Facebook page, confirming that rescue efforts are in full swing.
So far, two individuals have been successfully pulled from the debris and rushed to the hospital for treatment. One of the victims is reported to be in a very critical condition. Rescue teams suspect that at least one or two more people may still be trapped beneath the rubble.
The Director of Operations of the Ghana National Fire Service is personally leading the rescue mission. Heavy-duty equipment has been requested to help clear the debris and access hard-to-reach areas of the collapsed structure.
Emergency personnel are working tirelessly to locate and rescue any remaining victims.
The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, but preliminary indications suggest the building was still under construction at the time of the incident.
Further updates on the rescue operation and the condition of the victims will be provided as more information becomes available.
