Quick-Thinking Driver Rams Vehicle into Armed Robbers, Foils MoMo Theft in Darkuman

A daring intervention by a motorist helped foil a robbery attempt in Darkuman on Tuesday, January 14, 2026, when he deliberately rammed his vehicle into two suspected armed robbers fleeing with stolen cash from a mobile money (MoMo) vendor.
Eyewitnesses reported that the suspects had just robbed the vendor of approximately GH¢7,700 and were attempting to escape when the driver noticed the incident. Acting swiftly, he accelerated and collided with the robbers, causing both to fall and disrupting their getaway.
In the confusion, one suspect managed to flee the scene, while the other was immediately overpowered and held by residents who rushed to the area.
The arrested suspect was subjected to mob action before police officers arrived to restore order and take him into custody. The stolen cash was recovered from the scene.
The suspect remains in police custody, assisting with investigations, while efforts continue to apprehend his escaped accomplice.
Police have commended the vigilance of the public and the motorist’s decisive action in preventing the robbers’ escape. However, they cautioned against mob justice, urging residents to hand over suspects to law enforcement to ensure due process and prevent further harm.
