Queen Mother speaks on mysterious deaths that led to closure of Kɔbɛdi AME Zion Basic School

The Queen Mother of Kɔbɛdi, a farming community near Chiraa in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region, Nana Ameyaa Ansu Gyeabour, has addressed concerns surrounding the mysterious death of the headmistress of Kɔbɛdi AME Zion Basic School, an incident that led to the temporary closure of the school.
According to her, academic activities were suspended for one week after the sudden passing of the headmistress, Madam Gladys Dorlo Batinge, as fear and tension spread throughout the community.
She explained that anxiety increased further after another teacher reportedly died under unusual circumstances, sparking speculation among residents about the possible cause of the deaths.
Nana Ameyaa Ansu Gyeabour said some community members believe the incidents may be linked to an alleged curse said to have been invoked by a native connected to the nearby Nzor community. This, she noted, is allegedly related to accusations of extortion involving some school authorities.
Speaking to the media, she said the traditional council has stepped in to help address the matter and restore calm in the community.
Meanwhile, the Krotihene of Kɔbɛdi, Nana Korang Amoah Asimpi, has dismissed what he describes as false and misleading media reports about the closure of the community’s only basic school.
He urged journalists and media organisations to verify information before publication to avoid causing panic and misunderstanding among residents.
The situation has heightened concern in the community, with traditional leaders working to calm tensions while authorities continue to monitor developments.
