Public Sector Recruitment Review Upholds 1,201 Appointments, Revokes 541 After Post-Election Audit

A Special Committee set up by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has completed its review of public sector appointments made during the transition period following the December 7, 2024 general elections. The panel upheld 1,201 appointments while revoking 541 others.

The review focused on recruitments carried out in the final months of the previous Akufo-Addo administration. Earlier this year, the government revoked 2,080 appointments over concerns that established civil service recruitment procedures had been bypassed.

Of the cases examined, 338 appointments involving persons with disabilities were fully maintained after the committee confirmed they complied with due process and relevant affirmative action guidelines.

Announcing the outcome, Minister of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that the exercise was driven by principle rather than politics.

“This review was never about targeting individuals or settling scores,” the minister said. “It was about restoring due process, strengthening accountability, and ensuring good governance in the public service. Where appointments followed proper procedures, they were upheld. Where they did not, they were revoked. That is the simple standard we applied.”

The Chief of Staff’s committee worked systematically through the affected cases, verifying documentation, recruitment timelines, and adherence to public service regulations. The final figures reflect decisions taken after careful examination of each appointment.

Government sources indicate that the affected individuals whose appointments were revoked have been formally notified, and arrangements are being made to address any immediate administrative consequences.

The review forms part of the current administration’s broader commitment to institutional reforms, transparency in public appointments, and respect for established recruitment protocols across all government agencies and state institutions.

Public reaction to the outcome has been mixed, with some stakeholders praising the focus on due process while others have questioned the scale of the initial revocations and the impact on affected public servants. The government has maintained that the process was fair, evidence-based, and necessary to rebuild confidence in the public service recruitment system.
