Public Health Nurse Raises Alarm Over Rising Kidney Cases, Urges Regular Check-Ups

A public health nurse at the Abrafi Women and Children Hospital in Techiman, Nurse Murphy, has raised concern over the increasing number of kidney-related cases and is urging the public to know their status before it is too late.

She attributed the surge to poor lifestyle choices, unhealthy eating habits, stress and other contributing factors, and called on Ghanaians to prioritise regular health checks.

Speaking in an interview, Nurse Murphy noted that many people are unknowingly damaging their kidneys through daily habits that can easily be corrected.

She identified excessive consumption of processed foods, high salt intake, inadequate water consumption and the abuse of painkillers as among the common causes of kidney damage.

Stress, she added, is also a silent contributor to kidney problems, and she urged the public to find healthy ways to manage the pressures of daily life.

The nurse highlighted some of the early warning signs and symptoms of kidney issues that should not be ignored. She stressed that early detection greatly improves treatment outcomes and advised people to take time out of their busy schedules for regular medical check-ups.

Nurse Murphy further cautioned the public against self-medication and advised seeking proper medical examination before taking any medication.

The report was filed by Nana Akua Agyeiwaa Kodie for Adwumapa FM, Techiman.
