Prime Suspect Remanded as Investigation Deepens in Immigration Officer’s Gruesome Murder

Friday, August 8, 2025, the Adabraka District Court was enveloped in a solemn mood as Bright Aweh, the prime suspect in the murder of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, was remanded into police custody for a fortnight. Amoah, a 38-year-old officer with the Ghana Immigration Service, was reported missing on July 3 after leaving his Ashongman Estate home to meet a friend. Five days later, his partially burnt body was discovered at Abuom Junction, near Kwabenya, marking a tragic escalation from an initial kidnapping case to confirmed homicide.

The Ghana Police Service has intensified investigations, with the case adjourned until August 22, 2025. Forensic evidence uncovered at the suspect’s residence and a secondary crime scene underscores the gravity of the offense. Investigators found blood spatter, signs of attempted cleanup, burnt fabrics, and blood-soaked objects, all sent for forensic analysis alongside DNA samples from the victim’s family.

Speaking outside the courtroom, Vesta Amoah, the deceased’s sister, expressed heart-wrenching grief and a plea for justice on behalf of her family.

COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the CID, detailed the timeline: Amoah was last seen after receiving photos of cash bundles from Aweh, who owed him a debt. Subsequent police inquiry uncovered inconsistencies in Aweh’s account. The discovery of Amoah’s burnt remains via forensic searches has turned a case of disappearance into a profound criminal inquiry, reflecting a larger societal challenge of violent crime.

This case continues to command national attention as investigators pursue justice for the fallen officer.
