President John Dramani Mahama is expected to open a national conference on housing finance in Accra on 7 October 2026, as stakeholders explore ways to address funding constraints in Ghana’s affordable housing sector.
The two-day event, organised by the National Homeownership Fund (NHF), will be held at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel under the theme “Adequate Housing for All: Innovative Financing for Ghana’s Housing Future”.
President Mahama, who will attend as Guest of Honour, is expected to deliver the keynote address at the opening session.
According to a press statement issued on Wednesday, 30 September, the conference will bring together representatives from government, financial institutions, the private sector, development institutions, civil society, academia and local government to discuss sustainable approaches to housing finance.
The meeting comes amid persistent challenges in the housing sector, including rising construction costs, high mortgage rates, limited access to long-term financing and affordability constraints that have made it difficult for many households to secure adequate homes.
Participants are expected to examine ways to mobilise and deploy capital more effectively to expand access to housing, particularly for low- and middle-income earners.
Discussions will also focus on Ghana’s existing housing finance system, innovative funding models, institutional reforms and partnerships that could improve access to affordable and sustainable housing.
The conference is being organised in collaboration with the Ministries of Finance; Works, Housing and Water Resources; and Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, as well as the Bank of Ghana and Shelter Afrique Development Bank.
Financial institutions, labour unions and private-sector players are also expected to contribute to the discussions.
The conference will end with a policy outcomes communiqué containing recommendations to guide policy development, implementation and resource mobilisation for the housing sector.
The event forms part of activities marking World Habitat Day 2026, with the NHF seeking to turn discussions on adequate housing into practical financing solutions.
