President Mahama Heads to South Korea for Four-Day Official Visit to Boost Ties and Investment

President John Dramani Mahama is set to embark on a four-day working visit to the Republic of Korea from March 10 to March 14, 2026, with the primary goal of reinforcing bilateral relations and identifying fresh opportunities for economic cooperation and investment between the two countries.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, announced in an official statement that the President will leave Accra on Sunday, March 10, to begin the high-level engagements in South Korea.

The visit’s main event will be a bilateral meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, where the leaders are expected to explore ways to deepen political dialogue, expand economic partnerships, and advance joint development initiatives. President Mahama will also meet Woo Won-shik, Speaker of the Korean National Assembly, to discuss parliamentary cooperation and broader strategic alignment.

A major highlight on the agenda is the President’s participation in a ship naming ceremony at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan. The event highlights potential collaboration in maritime industries, shipbuilding, and related industrial sectors. Additionally, President Mahama is scheduled to deliver a keynote address during a conferment ceremony at Yonsei University, one of South Korea’s most prestigious academic institutions.

Beyond formal meetings, the President will engage with the Ghanaian community in South Korea through an evening reception for Ghanaians living, studying, and working there. He will also attend a dinner with leading chief executives and business figures to exchange views on investment possibilities and explore private-sector partnerships.

The government described the trip as a continuation of longstanding efforts to strengthen Ghana-South Korea relations. South Korea has been a consistent partner for Ghana, offering valuable support in infrastructure development, technical expertise, education exchanges, and private-sector investments over the years.

Officials expressed optimism that the visit will yield concrete outcomes to further mutual prosperity. More details on agreements, commitments, or new initiatives emerging from the discussions will be made public following the President’s return to Ghana.
