President Mahama Calls for Greater Empowerment of Women on International Women’s Day

President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to prioritize opportunities and support for women, emphasizing that empowering them brings widespread benefits to families, communities, and the entire nation.
In a message shared on his social media platforms to mark International Women’s Day 2026, the President highlighted the transformative power of investing in women and girls. He stressed that providing resources, opportunities, and unwavering backing leads to collective progress.
“When we give opportunities, resources, and unwavering support to our women, we gain as a country,” President Mahama wrote.
He pointed out that the effects of women’s empowerment extend far beyond individual achievements, noting that empowered women uplift entire households and neighborhoods.
“We have seen time and again that when women are empowered, entire families and communities are transformed,” he said.
The President called on all citizens to actively work toward dismantling barriers that hinder women and girls while building stronger pathways for their success.
“Let us commit ourselves to breaking down barriers, creating pathways to success, and ensuring that every Ghanaian woman and girl has the chance to reach her full potential,” he added.
This year’s International Women’s Day is being observed under the theme “Give to Gain,” which President Mahama said perfectly captures the idea that investing in women yields returns for society as a whole.
“As we observe International Women’s Day 2026 under the theme ‘Give to Gain,’ let us remember that every investment we make in empowering our mothers, sisters and daughters multiplies into prosperity for our entire nation,” he stated.
The message aligns with ongoing national conversations about gender equality, economic inclusion, and the vital role women play in driving Ghana’s development. President Mahama’s remarks serve as a reminder of the shared responsibility to create an environment where women can thrive and contribute fully to the country’s future.
