Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC), Legon, have successfully navigated their first major test of the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), defeating St. Louis Senior High School and Islamic SHS, Kumasi to keep their hopes of extending their record title haul alive.
The eight-time champions took control from the opening round, establishing an early lead of 23–17–8 before extending their advantage to 40 points in Round Two.
PRESEC continued their strong performance in the Problem of the Day, securing 8 out of the available 10 points to move to 48 points.
St. Louis SHS mounted a comeback in Round Four and produced a perfect performance in the True or False segment, earning the Jupay Clean Sheet. However, PRESEC remained firmly in control and eventually finished the contest with 67 points.
St. Louis SHS ended on 47 points, while Islamic SHS, Kumasi finished with 19 points.
The victory keeps PRESEC’s quest for a ninth national title firmly on course. The Legon-based school has already won the competition eight times and will now look ahead to the next stage of the contest.
Meanwhile, Mfantsipim School, the defending champions, have also advanced after defeating Wesley Girls’ High School. Having won the NSMQ in 2024 and 2025, Mfantsipim are chasing a historic third consecutive title and their fifth overall.
With both giants progressing, the competition is set for another exciting battle as PRESEC pursue title number nine while Mfantsipim seek to make history with a third straight championship.
