Police Launch Manhunt for Man Filmed Giving Child Cigarette in Viral Video

The Ghana Police Service has launched an urgent investigation and nationwide manhunt for a man captured in a viral video allegedly forcing a young child to smoke what appears to be a cigarette.
In a statement issued Friday, the Police confirmed they are working around the clock to identify and arrest the suspect, while efforts are also underway to locate the child and ensure their immediate safety and protection.
“Every effort is being made to identify and arrest the suspect involved and to ensure that the child is safe and protected,” the statement read.
Authorities have appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the man or the child to report to the nearest police station or contact police hotlines.
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a blatant act of child abuse and endangerment.
In a separate statement, the Ministry said exposing children to harmful substances violates the Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 560) and constitutes physical, psychological, and moral harm.
“Such conduct is punishable under the law,” the Ministry warned, calling on parents, guardians, and the public to remain vigilant in protecting children from all forms of exploitation and danger.
The disturbing video, which has sparked widespread outrage on social media, shows an adult male repeatedly placing the lit substance in the child’s mouth while others laugh in the background.
Child rights advocates have described the footage as “deeply troubling” and a stark reminder of the need for stronger enforcement of child protection laws.
The Police have assured the public that the suspect will be brought to justice once apprehended.
