Police Foil Planned Gold Robbery: Arrest Key Suspect in Ashanti Region Plot

Police in the Ashanti South Region have arrested Stephen Kwakye for his role in planning a robbery targeting a gold miner in the mining community of Manso Abrense, near Manso Nsiana.

The arrest happened on December 30, 2025, after police received intelligence about a gang plotting to attack a miner who regularly transports gold to Kumasi for sale.

Investigations show Kwakye was deeply involved—he tracked the victim’s movements and helped coordinate with accomplices to ambush him on the road.

Officers monitored the situation closely. They caught Kwakye when he arrived to pick up his share of the “proceeds,” after being told the fake robbery had succeeded.

During questioning, he confessed to organizing the plot.

Kwakye is now in custody helping with further inquiries. Police are working hard to track down and arrest his partners so they can face justice.

This quick action highlights efforts to tackle rising robberies linked to Ghana’s gold mining areas, where valuable hauls often attract criminals
