Police Arrest Suspect for Unlawful Possession and Attempted Sale of Firearm in Accra

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect for the unlawful possession and attempted sale of a firearm in Accra following intelligence-led operations by the Special Support Unit to the Inspector General of Police.
The suspect, identified as Abdulai Ibrahim, was arrested on December 29, 2025, at Sodom and Gomorrah in the Greater Accra Region after allegedly arranging to meet prospective buyers to sell an assault rifle.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect presented a box containing a CZ rifle, which he reportedly offered for sale at GH¢35,000. During interrogation, he further admitted to previously transporting several pump-action guns to individuals in the Northern Region.
The suspect also disclosed that the firearms were allegedly sourced from an arms dealer operating around the UTC area in Accra. This revelation has prompted further investigations as police intensify efforts to trace and arrest all individuals linked to the illegal arms trade.
The firearm has since been retrieved and secured by the police for further examination. Abdulai Ibrahim is currently in police custody assisting investigations, as authorities work to dismantle the network involved in the unlawful possession and distribution of firearms.
