Plane Was OK, But Missing Safety Tools Could Have Saved Lives

The army helicopter that crashed on August 6 and killed 8 people was working fine. But it did not have important safety tools that could have stopped the accident.
A special team checked everything. They gave their report to President Mahama on Monday. The team leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, said the plane was safe to fly. The pilot was also well trained.
But the helicopter did not have:
1. A system to warn about hills or ground (HTAWS)
2. A map to show danger areas
3. Auto-control to keep the plane steady
The crash happened because of a sudden strong wind and low clouds over hills. The plane lost height fast and hit the ground.
The team advice to the government of Ghana:
Buy helicopters with better safety tools
Build weather stations
Train pilots more with machines
The 8 people who died were:
Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah
Environment Minister Dr. Murtala Muhammed
3 army crew
3 other top officials
