Patang Residents Threaten Demonstration and Election Boycott Over Poor Roads

Residents of Patang Village in the Ga East Municipality have threatened to stage a demonstration and boycott the 2028 general elections over the deteriorating condition of roads in the area.
According to the residents, the roads have become almost impassable, particularly during the rainy season, making movement difficult for motorists, commuters, and residents.
They attributed the worsening condition of the roads to the alleged encroachment on the Dakobi River by private developers.
The residents claim that the encroachment has altered the natural course of the river, resulting in severe erosion along sections of the Dakobi stretch and causing extensive damage to nearby roads.
Speaking to Citi News, some residents accused both the Ga East Municipal Assembly and the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly of granting permits to developers despite the environmental and infrastructural risks associated with the construction activities around the river.
Frustrated by what they described as years of neglect and unfulfilled promises, residents warned that they would refuse to participate in future elections if urgent action is not taken to address the problem.
“Anyone who dares bring a ballot box here during the next general election will incur our wrath,” one angry resident stated.
The residents are therefore calling on the relevant authorities to intervene immediately to repair the damaged roads and address the alleged encroachment on the Dakobi River before the situation worsens further.
They also appealed to environmental and planning authorities to investigate the activities of developers operating around the river and ensure strict enforcement of regulations aimed at protecting waterways and public infrastructure.
