Parliament Resumes Second Session of Ninth Parliament Today

The Second Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, following the Christmas recess that brought the First Session to a close in December 2025.
In preparation for the resumption, the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business has held a series of engagements with Ministers of State to review progress and align legislative priorities for the new session.
The upcoming sitting is expected to feature several important items on the Order Paper, including:
The laying of new bills
Statements on key national issues
Questions directed to Ministers
Among the high-profile matters anticipated are:
Discussions and possible legislative action relating to illegal mining (galamsey)
Continued consideration and debate on the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill (commonly known as the Anti-LGBT Bill), which is expected to generate significant and intense debate on the floor
The resumption marks the beginning of a busy parliamentary period, with lawmakers expected to address pressing national concerns and advance the government’s legislative agenda for the year. The session will run until the next major recess, subject to the parliamentary calendar.
Further details on the Order Paper and specific business for the first week will be made available closer to the opening date.
