Parliament Erupts in Chaos as Majority and Minority Clash Over Kpandai Seat

arliamentary proceedings turned chaotic on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, as Minority MPs protested Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to continue government business despite deferring a ruling on the disputed Kpandai seat vacancy.

Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh demanded adjournment, insisting no business proceed until the issue stemming from a December 4 Clerk’s letter notifying the EC of the vacancy after a court-ordered rerun—is resolved.

Speaker Bagbin overruled via voice vote, prompting Minority members in black attire to chant, surge forward, and confront advancing Majority MPs in a tense central standoff.

Shouts drowned the chamber as marshals struggled for order, but Bagbin pressed on with the agenda.

Earlier, the Minority blocked Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga from addressing calls to withdraw the letter, tied to a Tamale High Court ruling invalidating the 2024 Kpandai results.

The disruption highlights escalating partisan friction over electoral integrity and parliamentary procedure.
