PAC Recovers Over GH¢12.9 Billion in Misappropriated Public Funds, Chair Reveals

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Ghana’s Parliament, in collaboration with the Auditor-General’s office, has successfully recovered more than GH¢12.9 billion in misappropriated public funds flagged in the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report.
The milestone, announced by PAC Chairperson Abena Osei-Asare on October 1, 2025, underscores the committee’s intensified scrutiny of financial irregularities across ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
Osei-Asare, speaking during ongoing PAC sessions, credited the achievement to robust partnerships: “What we are doing is yielding positive results… Per the work of the Public Accounts Committee, and with the support of the Auditor-General, we have been able to retrieve GH¢12.9 billion. There is a whole report on that which we will be sharing with the public at the right time.”
This follows earlier recoveries, such as GH¢12.7 billion from disallowed expenditures between 2020 and 2023, highlighting a sustained push for accountability.
The committee’s efforts address systemic issues like unearned salaries and disallowed expenditures, with recent hearings focusing on the Ghana Health Service’s recovery of over GH¢10,000 in such cases.1973301f121b PAC sittings are set to resume on October 27, 2025, to continue probing infractions and ensure further recoveries. Osei-Asare emphasized that transparency and fiscal discipline remain core priorities, vowing to prevent future misappropriations.
