Over 400 Tertiary Students in Ketu North Receive Scholarships from MP Edem Agbana
Second Phase of Eric Agbana Scholarship Scheme Provides Financial Support to Ease Burden on Families and Prevent Dropouts

More than 400 tertiary students from the Ketu North Constituency have benefited from financial support under the Eric Agbana Scholarship Scheme, funded personally by the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Edem Agbana.
The initiative, now in its second phase, is designed to help students who have gained admission to tertiary institutions but struggle to pay fees, as well as those already enrolled who risk dropping out due to financial difficulties.
The scholarship aims to reduce the heavy financial burden on families and ensure that bright but needy students are not forced to abandon their education.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Agbana explained that the programme targets young people with great potential but limited financial resources.
“Investing in education remains one of the most effective ways to transform communities and create opportunities for the next generation,” he said.
He emphasised that the scheme is part of his commitment to expanding access to higher education in the constituency.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, who was present at the event, called for broader national support for such initiatives.
He described education as a powerful tool for reducing inequality and urged other stakeholders to emulate the MP’s example.
The President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, also commended the scheme and encouraged media organisations to use their platforms to highlight and promote similar meaningful interventions.
Some students who benefited from the first phase shared heartfelt testimonies about how the scholarship has transformed their lives.
Inocentia Denyo and Cynthia Aharnogbe said the support enabled them to continue their studies without interruption or fear of dropping out.
Godknows Terkpo, a Level 200 physically challenged student at the University of Ghana, expressed gratitude for the assistance but appealed for improved infrastructure on campuses to make them more accessible for students with disabilities.
Significance of the Initiative
Education continues to be a major driver of national development, yet financial barriers still prevent many talented young Ghanaians from pursuing higher studies. In Ketu North, the Eric Agbana Scholarship Scheme is providing a vital lifeline, giving hundreds of students the opportunity to realise their academic dreams and build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
The MP has indicated that more students will be supported in subsequent phases of the programme.
