Ahafo NDC Denies Claims Linking MPs to NAIMOS Assault

The Communication Directorates of the Ahafo Region, Asutifi North, and Asutifi South branches of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have strongly denied allegations that two of their Members of Parliament were behind an attack on a NAIMOS task force at Bronikrom–Hwidiem on 1 November.

At a joint press conference held on 3 November at the Asutifi South District Assembly Hall, Ahafo Regional Communication Officer, Asafo Agyei Baffour, described the claims as “fabricated, malicious, and politically motivated.”

Official Position

  • No involvement: The NDC stated that Hon. Alhaji Collins Dauda (Asutifi South) and Hon. Dr. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo (Asutifi North) were not at the scene and did not instruct any youth group to attack the task force.

  • Commitment to policy: Both MPs remain committed to former President John Dramani Mahama’s anti-illegal mining policy and the party’s 2025 “Operation Zero Tolerance” directive.

  • Implausible claim: The allegation that Dr. Addo mobilized “600 macho men in five minutes” was dismissed as “mathematically and logistically impossible.”

Site Inspection Findings

A team led by the two constituency chairmen visited the Bronikrom mining concession on 3 November. Their findings showed:

  • No active mining pits within 500 meters of the main road.

  • Only abandoned pits and small community panning sites.

  • NAIMOS vehicles were parked on a licensed small-scale concession (Licence No. ASM/HA/24/112).

Call for Independent Investigation

The NDC called for an independent five-member committee, chaired by a High Court judge, to investigate the incident. The party also requested:

  • The public release of all body-camera and drone footage within 72 hours.

    • Both MPs plan to file formal complaints with Parliament’s Privileges Committee against those making the allegations.

    • The party’s legal team will petition the Inspector-General of Police to provide witness protection for NAIMOS officers involved in the case.

A forensic audit of the seized equipment to confirm ownership.

      Warning to Media Outlets

Mr. Baffour warned that media houses spreading unverified audio recordings or reports without proper fact-checking would be invited by the Regional Police Command for questioning.
