One Dead in Head-On Collision Between Toyota Voxy and Parked Truck on Accra–Kumasi Highway

A tragic road traffic accident on the Accra–Kumasi Highway claimed the life of one person on Saturday, March 7, 2026, when a speeding Toyota Voxy collided with a stationary MAN Diesel truck.

The incident occurred at Teacher Mantey, leaving the Toyota Voxy severely damaged after it crashed into the parked heavy-duty vehicle.

A six-member rescue team from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station, led by ADOII Ocansey Bright, responded promptly to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters found the Toyota Voxy badly mangled and one male occupant trapped inside the wreckage.

After carrying out extrication operations, the team retrieved the body of the deceased, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The remains were handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation, identification, and preservation at the morgue.

Eyewitnesses reported that the Toyota Voxy was travelling at high speed prior to the collision, which contributed to the severity of the impact.

“After completing the rescue operation, personnel from the fire service cleared the scene to restore normal traffic flow before returning safely to base,” the Ghana National Fire Service stated in a Facebook post on Sunday, March 8.

The Ghana National Fire Service has not released the identity of the deceased pending family notification and police formalities. The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service is leading the investigation into the exact circumstances of the crash, including speed, possible driver fatigue, or other contributing factors.

Road accidents remain a major concern along the busy Accra–Kumasi corridor, one of Ghana’s most heavily trafficked highways. Authorities continue to urge all road users to observe speed limits, maintain safe following distances, and ensure vehicles are in good mechanical condition to help prevent such preventable tragedies.
