OFFINSO NORTH DCE CUTS SOD FOR SIX-UNIT CLASSROOM BLOCK AT TONTOKROM

The Offinso North District Assembly has commenced the construction of a six-unit classroom block at Tontokrom, a community near Akumadan, to address longstanding challenges faced by children in accessing education.

The sod-cutting ceremony was held on Friday, June 12, 2026, and was led by the District Chief Executive for Offinso North, Hon. Ceasar Ofosu Acheampong, together with traditional leaders from the Akumadan Traditional Area and party executives.

For years, Tontokrom has had no school facility, forcing children to travel several kilometres to Akumadan to access basic education, often along poor and unsafe roads.

Residents say the situation has contributed to pupils missing early morning classes, arriving at school exhausted, and in some instances being involved in accidents. Some victims have reportedly sustained severe injuries, including amputations, while others have lost their lives.

Addressing chiefs and residents during a brief ceremony to launch the project, Hon. Ceasar Ofosu Acheampong said the construction of the classroom block demonstrates the government’s commitment to fulfilling its campaign promises and improving access to education in underserved communities.

He further acknowledged the numerous challenges confronting residents in the area and appealed for patience, assuring them that the Assembly remains committed to addressing their concerns one after another.

Speaking on behalf of the Paramount Chief of Akumadan, Nana Boakye Akuamoah Boateng II, the Gyaasehene, Nana Kwaku Boateng, expressed appreciation to the DCE for initiating the project.

He urged Hon. Ceasar Ofosu Acheampong to remain focused on his vision for the development of Akumadan and its surrounding communities and not be distracted by critics.

Residents expressed optimism that the completion of the classroom block will significantly improve access to education for children in Tontokrom and contribute to the overall development of the community.
